’Studies In Odd Time Signatures’ includes 12 improvised solo transcriptions over common chord progressions as well as 30 unique lines derived from those transcriptions written out in all 12 keys focusing on a variety of meters and harmonic sequences.
The transcriptions were performed with the intention to be challenging but accessible at a variety of levels, demonstrating clean harmonic and rhythmic line construction as it would occur in an improvised setting. Daily study and becoming familiar with this content is guaranteed to improve sight reading skills, time feel and rhythmic vocabulary.
Practice tracks of each transcription are provided both at the tempo the were originally recorded at as well as at a reduced speed for rhythmic accuracy. There is also a catalog of 30 different harmonic sequences played in an odd meter for students looking to practice playing in all 12 key centers. The standard chord progressions included are:
- My Shining Hour in 7/4
- Airegin in 10/8
- Donna Lee in 7/4
- Bernie's Tune in 5/4
